Introducing a brand-new playable class in Baldur's Gate 3 : The Red Mage inspired by the Red Mage class from the MMORPG Final Fantasy 14.

The class has been adapted (I tried) to seamlessly fit into Baldur's Gate 3's gameplay system.





Features

  • Adds the Red Mage class, proficient in both black (fire) and white (ice) magic.
  • Utilizes magic to empower their weapon (typically a rapier) and deal devastating melee damage (red magic).
  • Exhibits great versatility, capable of healing and resurrecting.
  • Can cast two spells per turn, offering a distinct gameplay dynamic compared to other mages.


Gameplay
  • Dual Casting The Red Mage, thanks to their Dual Cast passive, can cast a second spell during a turn. After casting the first spell, their passive modifies the spellcasting conditions to require a bonus action instead of a regular action. They can do this without constraints other than spell slot consumption, unlike sorcerers who must use sorcery points.
  • Black magic spellsThe Red Mage uses spells known as 'black magic,' which are fire-type spells.
  • White magic spells The Red Mage uses spells known as 'white magic,' which are ice-type spells.
  • Red Mage spells : In Final Fantasy 14, the Red Mage's spells are not exactly the same. I had to adapt them to Baldur's Gate 3 mechanics, which is why the Red Mage here uses the ice element.
  • Black and White gauges : The Red Mage has two magic gauges, one black and one white, ranging from 0 to 100. When they reach 100, they are full. Using black magic spells fills the black magic gauge, and white magic spells fill the white magic gauge. There are also Force and Lightning spells that fill both gauges simultaneously.
  • Melee combo : The red magic gauges allow the use of spells that require magic units within the gauges and consume them. These include healing spells and melee spells, which are a combo of 2/3 spells dealing a significant amount of damage.
  • Healing : The Red Mage can provide slight healing and has the ability to resurrect, making them versatile.
  • Others spells : The Red Mage does not gain access to many other spells in their arsenal as they level up. They primarily acquire support spells.
  • Duelist subclass The Duellsit Red Mage gains the Duelist Feat passive at level 1, even though the Feat still appears to be available in the choices.

Red Mage :
  • Level 1 : Subclass selection + subclass feature + 4 cantrips selection + 2 spells selection + 1 spellslot level 1 
  • Level 2 : 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 1
  • Level 3 : Subclass feature + 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 1 + 1 spell slot level 2 + black magic gauge + white magic gauge
  • Level 4 : Feat + 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 1 + 1 spell slot level 2
  • Level 5 : Subclass feature + 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 2 + 1 spell slot level 3 + DualCasting passive 
  • Level 6 : 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 2 + 1 spell slot level 3 
  • Level 7 : Subclass feature + 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 3 + 1 spell slot level 4
  • Level 8 : Feat + 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 4
  • Level 9 : Subclass feature + 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 4 + 1 spell slot level 5
  • Level 10 : 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 5
  • Level 11 : 2 spells selection + 1 spell slot level 6
  • Level 12 : Feat

Duelist :
  • Level 1 : FightingStyle Dueling passive + DefensiveDuelist passive
  • Level 3 : Corps-à-corps
  • Level 5 : Enchanted Moulinet
  • Level 7 : Enchanted Zwerchhau
  • Level 9 : Enchanted Redoublement

Customized Gaming Experience
  • This mod transforms your gaming experience by providing the opportunity to play as the Red Mage, a class exclusively available through this modification.



Requirements
  • Installation of this mod requires the use of the ImprovedUI mod to ensure compatibility, as well as possibly the ModFixer mod.



Future Updates
  • I plan to add new subclasses and customize spell icons for an even more immersive experience (long term objective))
  • Balancing spells, especially their damage, is not easy with the 'DualCast' mechanic (kinda mid term objective)

Installation Instructions
  • To install the mod, you can use BG3ModManager (BG3MM) by placing the RedMage.pak file into the C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods folder, after ensuring that you have also installed ImprovedUI. 
  • To uninstall the mod, simply remove the file from the Mods folder, refresh BG3MM, and make sure you do not have a character with the Red Mage class.



Available Languages
  • This mod is available in both English and French.



I hope you enjoy my mod! Feel free to provide feedback to help improve the class. I have a deep fondness for this class from Final Fantasy 14, and it was important to me to try to introduce it into BG3 after discovering the Warlock class. This is my first mod, so please be kind and understanding.
